PROYECTO DE CÓDIGO PENAL: ¿QUÉ SIGUE AHORA?
El Congreso Nacional de la República Dominicana ha convertido en ley un proyecto que reformaría el Código Penal del país. Esta iniciativa busca modernizar el marco penal dominicano, añadiendo más de 70 tipificaciones penales y aumentando las sanciones en diferentes casos. El Presidente Luis Abinader tiene 10 días para promulgarla una vez sea recibida en la Consultoría Jurídica, según lo establece la Constitución.
El Senado no utilizó un procedimiento especial para aprobar la ley, ya que solo debía revisar las modificaciones realizadas por la cámara baja en una única lectura. De no ser promulgada en el plazo establecido, la Constitución indica que las leyes sancionadas se considerarán promulgadas. El artículo constitucional también otorga al Poder Ejecutivo la facultad de hacer observaciones a la ley y devolverla al Congreso para su revisión.

The National Congress of the Dominican Republic has turned into law a project that would reform the country’s Penal Code. This initiative aims to modernize the Dominican penal framework by adding over 70 penal typifications and increasing sanctions in different cases. President Luis Abinader has 10 days to promulgate it once received by the Legal Consultancy, as established by the Constitution.
The Senate did not use a special procedure to approve the law, as it only needed to review the modifications made by the lower chamber in a single reading. If not promulgated within the established deadline, the Constitution indicates that the sanctioned laws will be considered promulgated. The constitutional article also grants the Executive Power the authority to make observations on the law and send it back to Congress for review.
